Make Donations to Help the Homeless, Not to Panhandlers

Giving change to people on the street usually only helps keep them there by feeding addictions and preventing them from seeking the help they need. Instead, please make donations to organizations that provide real help to people who are homeless by providing shelter, food, medical service, drug and alcohol treatment, and job training.

Please visit makerealchange.org to learn how you can donate in a way that is productive.

Holiday Trash Alert

Please note that, as a result of the President's Day holiday, which falls on Monday, February 16, 2008, trash will be collected one day late for the remainder of the week. Please visit the Health & Safety Committee's Resources page for links to the Streets Department's holiday schedule and other sanitation-related information.

Light Up Logan Square!

Help Make the Logan Square-Parkway Neighborhood Safer, One Stoop at a Time.

The Logan Square-Parkway neighborhood is generally safe but is located in a large city and therefore requires "street smarts." Adequately lighting your property is one of the best and least expensive ways to prevent crime directed at you and your loved ones, friends, and neighbors.

Currently, many streets in Logan Square are simply too dark. LSNA's Health & Safety Committee has created a task force to work on improving street lighting in our area (volunteers welcome). In the meantime, however, you can help immediately improve neighborhood safety by ensuring that your property is well-lit.

Please help make our neighborhood safer by taking inexpensive, easy steps to install lights, if you haven't already, such as:

         • Over your front door, installing light timers or photo-cells
to turn lights on/off automatically, so the street is well-lit at all times; and

         • In the rear and/or on the side of your home, installing light
timers, photo-cells, or infra-red motion sensor lights, which help deter
          intruders.

If you would like help installing or fixing your outdoor lights, please contact Pamela or David at lsnahs@gmail.com. They will negotiate a group rate with an electrician to reduce the cost for LSNA affiliates, if enough people participate.
