Cell Phone Ban Enforced as of December 1, 2009

As of December 1, 2009, the City has begun enforcing the ban on talking on a cell phone or texting while operating a vehicle in the city. The City of Philadelphia issued the following alert: "City Council passed a law banning the use of cell phones, and text messaging while driving. Therefore, it is now a violation of the City code to talk on a cell phone or text message while operating a vehicle in the City of Philadelphia. . . . After December 1st, if you're caught using your cell phone - either texting or on a call - you'll be fined. . . . Do your part to help keep your City and community safe."

Please email John Barrett and the Subcommittee on the Homeless at lsnahs@gmail.com with your experiences and thoughts relating to the homeless situation in the Logan Square-Parkway neighborhood.

October 2009 Officer of the Month - Police Officer Michael Livewell

On 10/28/09, Officer Livewell received information about two men arrested for theft from auto in the District. Believing that they drove to the area to commit the thefts, he searched the area and found a vehicle belonging to the sister of one of the men. Surveillance was established, and when the men were released from custody, they returned to the vehicle and were stopped. Pursuant to a warrant, the vehicle was searched, and the following was seized: 7 GPS devices, 1 Ipod, 1 laptop, and illegal narcotics. As a result of this investigation, 4 crimes were cleared. Thanks, Officer Livewell!

Register Your Bicycle

There is a far greater chance of having a stolen bicycle returned if it is identity-stamped. This can be done at the Ninth District on Monday - Friday between 9 and 5. For more information about bike registry, please call the District at 215-686-3090 or visit the Health & Safety Committee's web pages.
